This was a fun project! Here’s the story: A previous homeowner had built a loft in the master bedroom for his grandkids, which was accessible only by a ladder. Fun for kids, but it basically made the space unusable for the current homeowners. They wanted to turn the loft into an office, to free up one of their bedrooms. So, we removed the ladder and built a custom staircase, making access to the loft much safer! We used fir with a semi-transparent stain to keep the rustic look of the wood while keeping it protected.

And, because we hate to waste materials, we took the old ladder home and made a play structure for our chickens.
